Weather and track conditions were good for training operations at Avondale yesterday, when all the fast ivork was performed on the outside ot the course proper, where the trestles were out about 54ft. There was a heavy dew on the ground early, but the course improved under the drying wind on Thursday and some very smart sprinting was accomplished. The honours of the morning rested with the Flying Stakes candidate Golden Wings, who reeled off a fast half-mile attractively, and others to go well were Orapai, Lady Quex, King Colossi's and several of the two-year-olds. King Colossus (Bioughton) ran his first furlong in 14s two in 26 3-ss. and completed five furlongs in 1.5 4-5. It was a nice piece of work and the three-year-old finished on very solidly. King Colossus is on the improve and will not be disgraced among the good sprinters he has to meet to-day. Illuminagh (Everson) sprinted three furlongs in 39 S-ss. He wa3 carrying a fair weight and his effort was quite satisfactory. Haulbowline (Ludlow) and Sastrugi (Broughton) dashed over three furlongs in 30 l-os, a very smart gallop. They kept well together all the way and there was little between them at the finish, both working pleadingly. Rulanut Sprints Well. Air Laddie ran an easy four furlongs in st> 1-53. Beverage was to have gone with him. but he was too sore to muster up any speed and wae just allowed to run along steadily. Rulanut (McDowell) arid Posy (Johnson) were too gcod for Glow Light (Ludlow) over three furlongs in 36 4-ss. This was the first gallop after breakfast, when the track was a trifle faster than earlier. nut had a i?hght advantage oyer Posy at the end and went very pleasingly. Witnagood move up Golden Wings (McDowell) went away fast from the half-mile post and he pleased by running home in 50s, which was really good time with the trestles out so far Golden Wings was kicked along in the last furlong, but ran on well right to end. His gallop will bring him into greater favour for the Flying Stakes, in which he will be ridden by W. J. McDowell, who will claim an apprentice allowance. Lady Pam (Mulvihill), and Spear Lad (McDowell) were associated over seven furlongs in 1.35. They finished together, but Spear Lad wa4 being kicked along at the end to keep with Lady Pam. who is an improved mate fcr her racing at Wanganui. Cape Gold (McDowell) ran four furlongs without being bustleu in 53 l-ss. and Actaeon (McDowell) later went comfortably over the same distance in 52 3-3s. Actaeon ran creditacle races at Wanganui and he may do a little better to-day. Broken Eule's Three Furlongs.

Claramore, looking well, completed a useful task with four furlongs in 55 3-ss. Claremore will race on the flat to-day, but will probably run over hurdles on Monday, wlien he should be capable of a very sound effort. , , Broken Rule (light boy) easily defeated Loombination (Mclnally) over three furlongs in 36 4 ss. Broken Rule was kicked up at the finish, but she was running on resolutely. This filly did not jump out well at Warganui, but ran a good race and is one of tiio likely ones in the Avondale Stakes. Orapai (Wiggins; and Ladv Quex (l.ucflow) sprinted , four furlongs in 50 4-ss. Orapai lust. having his head in front at the finish. They were urged aloasr in the straight, but both worked well and are in first-class racing order. Little Doubt (Wiggins) and Gibraltar (Ludlow) were not bustled to run six fnrlongs in 1.-23 4-5. Little Doubt has not been racing well, but Gibraltar s prospects of winning another race shortly appear bright. , , . Supremacy and Motere vrerß out dome steady pace work. Supremacy is in good heart and Motere also looks very brigat and healthy. . On the inside grass Maori Boy covered six furlongs easil in 1.31. It is some time since Maori Bot displayed any form, but he has been standing ud to his work very sa tisfactoril'? lately and might reproduce some of h;s ola dash before the spring campaign if through RIDING ENGAGEMENTS.
