BREACH OF GAMING ACT. SMALL FINE IMPOSED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Friday. To stimulate business". Ernest Nees, a hardware merchant, offered free prizes of tools and cutlery to the 25th, 50th and 100 th customer to make a purchase in July, and so brought himself within the provisions of the Gaming Act. When the case was heard to-day he said he had no idea that he was committing a breach of the Act. The police said the defendant was a citizen of high standing and there was no reason to believe that things were not as he said. The magistrate decided to impose the light penalty of £1 and costs. •
