Mrs. S. E. Marler. of Main Road, St Heliers Bay, is visiting the South Island

Mrs. D. Green, of Sydney, is visiting Auckland, and is staying at tho Grand Hotel.

Mrs. John Hicks, of New York, is on a visit to Auckland, and is staying at the Grand Hotel.

Mrs. A. C. Bullock, of Wellington, is arriving in Auckland by the Rangitiki on October 1 from England.

Mr. and Mrs. G- F. L. Free, of Maslerton, are returning to New Zealand by the Rangitiki after an overseas visit.

Mrs. Willes, who has been visiting Wellington as the guest of her brother, Sir Heaton Rhodes, has left for Auckland. Pearse. who i 3 shortly to be ! married, with a handsome set of carvers. ; Miss Pearse has been.-a member of the office staff for some years, and Mr. Davies ! spoke of the high esteem in which she was i held. Miss Pearse suitably responded. j The concert at Pirongia Memorial Hall ! last Wednesday evening attracted a very large audience. The entertainment was promoted to augment the funds of the Pirongia branch of the Plunket Society, and the organisation will beneiit appreciably. The Orphans Club orchestra, under the baton of Mr. E. J. Moeller, provided several very enjoyable items. Delightful vocal solos were contributed by Miss Adele Bell, Mrs. L. D. Young, Mxs. Gardiner and Mr. J. Papesch, and vocal duets by the Misses A. ami R. Bell. The Snow Minstrels also provided a very acceptable ; offering, their tuneful singing being much : enjoyed. The programme concluded with ! a play, in which the parts were taken j by Mrs. Young. Misses J. Macky, Rene | Bell and Roselle Bell, and Messrs. G. | Bainbridge and S. Lorimer. At the coni elusion of the programme the hall was i cleared for dancing. Mrs. J. Dye, wife of the American | Consul in Wellington, who i 3 leaving j shortly with her husband to live in Meli bourne, has been the guest of honour at various farewell parties. Among the j hostesses was Mrs. i . M. Hitch, wife of i rhe Consul-General for the United States | of America, who gave a large party at the i Midland Hotel on Tuesday afternoon. The ! dining room was arranged with American | and other national flags, while the decorations were in tones of yellow, carried out bv groups of balloons and dnffodils on the tables intermingled with brown birch. Delicious tea and coffee with other refreshments were served, and gramophone selections accompanied the continuous hum of conversation. Mrs. Hitch received her guests wearing a gown of embossed silk I in delicate shades of mauve ami grey with ! a dainty shoulder spray of orchids made lof georgette. Mrs. Dye was in a bla< k j frock, cut, on plain lines, h»r hat being j black also, and she wore a beautiful f shoulder posv of white cyclamen and j hvacinths. Mr. Dye was present, and I with his wife received many kindly farei wells and good wishes for their future.
