STREAM CAUSES EROSION.
PROTECTIVE WORKS URGED. ✓ SUBSIDY OF £SO OFFERED. [from our. own correspondent. ] THAMES, Thursday. Residents living adjacent to the Kauaeranga Stroam have been much concerned over the serious erosion made hy floods on the right bank of the stream, where several hundred yards of earth have been swept away. Similar complaints were made about seven years ago, and the Public Works Department installed two groynes. It is now contended, however, that the erosion is as great as ever, and residents recently petitioned the Borough Council to take measures to ensure tho safety of their lands. A reply to tho council's representations was received at its meeting last evening, when the department advised that either tho Government or the Main Highways Board was prepared to offer the council a subsidy of £SO on an estimated cost of £l5O for further protcctivo works. Tho Mayor, Mr. S. Elisor, stated that the Works Committee had considered the matter and was obtaining further particulars from the department's engineer.
