SURPRISE FOR BURGLAR.
HAMILTON SHOP ENTERED. EMPLOYEE ON THE PREMISES. [FROM our own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Thursday. A forced entry into the clothing and 'mercery shop of Messrs. A. Birch and R. McKelvie in Ward Street, Hamilton, was mado early this morning. About 6.30 a.m., an employee, Mr. R. Kenah, who was sleeping behind the counter, was roused by the intruder, who was groping about near tho foot of his bed and inspecting the contents of the shop. Mr. Kenah attempted to close with the man, who broke away, however, and escaped through a window. Subsequently it was found that the burglar had made a hole in a pane of glass in order to release the window catch. Ho left behind a screwdriver and a handkerchief. No goods were stolen. The same premises were entered about two months ago and it has since been the practice for an employeo to sleep in the shop.
