LATEST BRITISH FIGURES. LARGER NUMBER AT WORK. LONDON. Sept. 22. After weeks of constant increase in unemployment., to-day's figures show an increase in < lie number of workers of 11,551, compared with the previous week. A new record in the number of registered unemployed was reported in the return for July 27, the total being 2,713.350. The previous highest aggregate of unemployed was recorded on March 9 (his year, when the total reached 2,691,737. A sharp increase at that time was attributed to temporary stoppages in the coalmining industry. The number at July 31 was 701,883 greater than at the corresponding date in 1930. A fortnight later the total had increased io 2,714,359 and the increase evidently continued for four weeks beyond that date, as the return mentioned in the cable apparently refers to September 14.
