PROGRESS OF EPHIALTES.

The connections of Gay Court have decided not to send the horse >.'orth for the Avondale and Auckland meetings, but will allow him a short respite jifter his two races at Wanganui He returned to Trentham on Monday.

There was very little fust on the Trentham track on Tuesday morning. The plough and the two-year-old course were open, and provided fair going:. Malayan was allowed to 6tretch out at a good three-quarter pace over a mile and aquarter. He was-keen on his work, and made better time than his trainer intended, running the last half-mile in a tick under 595.

Duellona, und Acorn sprinted six furlonss together easily in I.lS> 3-5. the last half-mtle in 53 '2-ss. Duellonn, is undergoing another !New Zealand Cup preparation.

Ephialtea, who has dona no fast gallopins: since the Grand National meeting, covered a round at a steady three-quarter pare. He will next be produced at Otaki. Weatherstep sprinted half a mile in 52 2-ss. Vitaphone, joined by Foulwind at the five furlongs, went nil furlongs easily. Cotte.«roore moved nicely over three furlongs in 38 4-53. Kilatat did a couple of rounds solid pacework. finishing with a sprint, down the straight,. . Portray took 53s for half a mile, and his stablemate, Retract, bettered the time by over a second. Dainty Ways, who is now held on lease by Li. Browne, and has been working fael for only a week, accompanied Fairwind over half a mile, the latter finishing in front in 51a. Fairwind made little progress in her work for several months, but is now beginning to liven up to her tasks. Black Mint who may be sent North for tho Auckland meeting, did a steady gallop over six furlongs, under a hold all the way. Hp has lately improved in appearance. None of tho two-year-olds was seriously extended. A. K. Browne's pair, Volga Boatman and Michael Angelo, did better than they were intended to in running three furlongs in .18 3-oh. tho former finishing in front. Youngsters to sprint down the straight, were vV. Hawthorne's trio. Cape oE Good Hope, Golden Horn, and Gaysong (together), Hawthorne's Capo Royal (alone), and J. TROTTING HANDICAPS.

SCALE OF ALLOWANCES.

Several amendments have been made to clauses governing the working of the revised trotting handicapping system. Under the beadius "Horses with pacing marks converted to trotters." the following allowances will be m«de on the two-miles mark: Line 16 and slower, 6s line 17 to 23, 7s; line 24 to 31. 8s : line 32 and faster. 9s. If reconverted to & pacer the horse would return to his own pacing assessment or keep to the new trotting assessment if faster. The handicapping of horsea with trotting records, when competing against pacers, is left to the discretion of the handicapper, with a maximum allowance of 24 yards over all distances, added to his trotting assessment. '
