PROGRESS OF EPHIALTES.

The connections of Gay Court have decided not to send the horse >.'orth for the Avondale and Auckland meetings, but will allow him a short respite jifter his two races at Wanganui He returned to Trentham on Monday.

There was very little fust on the Trentham track on Tuesday morning. The plough and the two-year-old course were open, and provided fair going:. TROTTING HANDICAPS.

SCALE OF ALLOWANCES.

Several amendments have been made to clauses governing the working of the revised trotting handicapping system. Under the beadius "Horses with pacing marks converted to trotters." the following allowances will be m«de on the two-miles mark: Line 16 and slower, 6s line 17 to 23, 7s; line 24 to 31. 8s : line 32 and faster. 9s. If reconverted to & pacer the horse would return to his own pacing assessment or keep to the new trotting assessment if faster. The handicapping of horsea with trotting records, when competing against pacers, is left to the discretion of the handicapper, with a maximum allowance of 24 yards over all distances, added to his trotting assessment.
