The track 3 ut Awapuni were on tho hard side this morning <md the trial grasa and plough were freely used.

Kins Colossus (Brougliton) and Haulbowline (Wilkinson) were sent a round on the trial gras3 the reverse way, the Avondale Guineas candidate being on the outside. From winning-post to winning-post, a distance of about seven and a-half furlongs, they finished very attractively after running 1.39.

Sastrugi (Broughtou) also worked the reverse way 011 the same track, but was not sent against the watch. The filly is' a shade sore after Wanganui, but she will fulfil her engagement in the Avondale Stakes. Twelve months ago King Colossus ran second in the Debutant Stakes at Wauganui and then went north to win the Avondale Stakes. Sastrugi will now attempt to repeat the performance for G. "VV. New. King Colossus, Sastrugi and Haulbowline left for Auckland to-night. HASTINGS. Tuesday.

The track at Hastings was in excellent order this morning. The work was practically confined to tho plough, which wa3 somewhat on the dead side, although thei'o were one. or two gallops on the grass. Kahikatoa worked early on the plough, going the reverse way. He strode along freely in view of his Auckland engagement. Cassadora (Hunting v Song—Tigntiya), Royal Picture and the three-year-old by Gainscourt—Noiey sprinted three fndonsa_ on the plough in 51}s, finishing together. Cassadora is on the improve. Princess Elizabeth jumped onro round slowly over the hurdles and steeple fences, shaping well. She then went five furlongs on the plough with Brown Sugar, showing pace considering her earlier task. 'Die two finished together in 1.5. Brown Sugar naturally doing it the better. It waa a satisfactory gallop. Tho Hunting Song—Lady Ainslio gelding in Wallace -Young's stable, with a fair weight in the saddle, ran five furlongs with Mint Sauce in l.a Tho Lady Ainslie gelding pleased. Head Strang and Cuticle did strong work on the plough. Loth moving freely over a round. Gold Trail and Lotus Lily ."printed half a mile on the grass in 52js. with Lotus Lily in front. Gold Trail 13 of a lazy disposition. Xea Lap did a mile on the grass in 1.45. She does not like the barrier and is inclined to dwell on the mark. Goshawk did a similar tnsk with a lizht boy in the saddle in the samo time. These two horses were intended to go together, but Nea Lap would not begin, eo consequently they galloped separately. Great Charter who is verv well, worked twice round on the plough with Manuiri. Moa Bird and Rapallo galloped six furlongs on the plough in 1.131. a fair gallop, especially for Rapallo. Royal Parades, with his trainer in the saddle, enntered twice round on tho plough. Benefice did the same performance. Pikete, Crown Jest and Kaokaoroa sprinted six furlongs on the plough in 1.22. Crown Jest finishing in front. Gold Mag and Gresham dashed over fivo furlongs in 1.7. Greshnm impressing. Flamingo worked steadily over a round on the grass. Princes 3 Bell waa on the track, but did not work. Speed and Swift and Sure ran three furlongs separately on the grass in 38s. They are. both in good order. Pillow Fight did not put in an appearance and evidently was exercised on his owner's track at Flaxmerc. A two-year-old by Lord Quex from ilarae Totara has joined W. Young's stable. She is a low-set filly, with great lees and sood constitution, and is a nice mover. Hunting Cry was on the track bandaged in front, but walking freely. He ia in phasic at present,. My Own galloped once round on the plough in 1.421. being carted along for the first three furlones by Imperial Fame and then picked up hy Jenny Diver for the last five Jenny Diver naturally finished in front, but Mv Own worked well and finished strongly. Orapai and Glowlisht went well over half a mile in oils. Orapai looks in sreat, order after hia race at Wancanui and hit out very freely. March Alone ran right awav Irora True Lap over a similar distance in s(i!s. He moved well, but may not be sent to AvonSpanish Prin-e and Green Patch both put plenty of dash into a four-furlongs flutter in 565. Both these horses have unproved a, lot. lately. .. Hold Dawn did half a mile easily in s<>s. She has had an easy time lately and looks a little above herself. , , Orapai nnd Glowlisht will co to Auckland by motor-float to-morrow. Royal Finance, who was lame after her race on Saturday, and Easter Time, who is to be spelled, returned from Wanganui yesterday.
