TWO WEAPONS PAWNED
FINE AND PROBATION.
The theft of two shotguns was admitted by Geoffrey Harrington Ford, aged 32 (Mr. Bone), in the Police Court yesterdav. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said the offences were committed in Hamilton last month. Accused obtained a loan of one gun on tlie false representation that he intended to go shooting and then pawned the weapon for £1 10s. When he came to Auckland some days later he posted tlie pawn ticket and a letter of explanation to the owner of the gun. The other gun, which was given to accused to raffle, was pawned /for £2 I.os, the ticket subsequently being sold by accused for £1 10s. In asking for leniency, counsel said accused committed the thefts while on a drinking bout, lie was then in cmplovment as a salesman, but had now lost that position. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, im- - p os ed a fine of £5, in default one month's imprisonment, on one charge, and admitted Ford to probation for 12 months on the other count. Restitution of £5 was ordered to be made.
