SCENE OF TROUBLE IN FAR EAST. The map shows the country of Manchuria, where a serious dispute has arisen between Japan and China over a large number of issues outstanding between the two nations, including the control of the South Manchuria railway. This extends from Harbin in the north to Newchang in the south and is marked by a dotted line. The Chinese Eastern Railway, running from Manchuli to Harbin and on to the east coast is also marked by a dotted line, as is the trans-Siberian railway to the north of Manchuria.
