TE AWAMUTU HORSES.

PROSPECTS FOR AVONDALE. A STRONG CONTINGENT. BIDDY'S BOY AND SUPREMACY. [from our-:, own correspondent.] TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. Trainers hare every reason to be pleased with the facilities at Te Awamulu for preparing their horses for tho approaching Avondale and Auckland meetings, which will attract a large number of local repre-' sentatives. Most of tho horses are well forward, several appearing to have reasonable prospects of getting a stake. Kingswny, who is engaged in the Maiden Plate at Avondale, was improved by his outing at tho Pakuranga meeting and is acquitting himself in good style on tho track. He is expected to show up in this event. L. Orango will be liis rider. Marechal's latest track efforts have been very encouraging. He will bo ridden in the Maiden Plate by 11. Goldfinch. Lucidus Vins been hitting out in great style on the local track and in his recent efforts he has shown that ho is a galloper above the ordinary. Although he will make his first public appearance in the Maiden Plate, he should prove hard .to beat. Biddy's Boy Working Well. Nothing has been working better than Biddy's Boy, who has gone on the right way since winning the open sprint at tho Pakuranga meeting. Biddy's Boy will be ridden by 11. Grny in the Champion Hack Plato, in which he promises to tako a prominent part. Aspian. who i 3 fancied in some quarters for the Avondale Guineas, bears a bright appearance and is expected to bo a very useful three-year-old. Te Hoia is working as satisfactorily as anyone could wish. 110 doe 3 not exert himself, but if 11. Brown can make him produce his best he must bo considered a worthy opponent in tho Avondalo Cup. The two-year-old Miss Linley, who displays a fine burst of speed for a couple of furlongs, has not been hurried in her preparation. A 6inart run five furlongs may bo beyond her at present, but she is a shapely filly, and should win races later in the season. L. Orange will ride her in the Avondale Stakes Sea Ruler, by Chief Iluler—Sea Gull 11., is a solid-looking customer and displays plenty of dash and determination in his track efforts. He also possesses beginning ability which will be a big advantage next Saturday. 11. Gray is not available for Sea Ruler, who appears to be the best of tho local juveniles. J. McHae will have tho mount. Loombination is not so forward as tho other youngsters, but in his gallops moves vcy freely and cots over the ground without apparent effort. He has only been broken in about 12 weeks, so ho cannot be expected to be at his best yet awhile. Supremacy and Taurua. Supremacy is in great fettle and although he has been allotted a big weight in the spriut at Avondale, he can be relied upon to give a creditable account of himself. He will be ridden by F. Foster. Taurua has been pleasing his trainer by the manner in which he has been getting through his work. He is engaged in the Swanson Handicap and H. Gray will be his pilot. Red Lion is in first-class order, but is an unlikely starter in the Swanson Handicap. Profomint's appearance suggests that he is a much-improved horse since racing at tho Pakuranga meeting and should be equal to winning a race Boon. He is in nice trim to take liis place in the Swanson Handicap. Protomint will have his usual pilot, T. Rowan. The disappointing Kairuri has made a pood recovery from his lameness and W. Broughton has him in capital trim at present. He will have an outing in the Swanson Handicap and tho successful Awapuni light-weight, W. Broughton, will have the mount. Teazan does not appear to be 'nt home on a right-handed course, but he still_ has time to get accustomed to the surroundings, and he may perform better at Avondale, where ho is engaged the second day. Limeen, owing to slight injunes, has been restricted to light exercise for the past fe-.v days, which is a bad sign at this stage of the preparation. However, she is not engaged tho first day and may have time to regain form. In her previous track work she performed well. Karapoti. who will accompany A. Cook's team to Ellerslie on Friday, is hitting out in preat stylo on the local track. He bns wintered well and is in pood order to commence a strenuous season. Te Homai has given faultless displays for his initial attempts at steeplechasing nnd he looks as if he will make good at this department. A. Cook, who intends to take nine horses to Ellerslio on Friday, most, of them to compete nt Avondale, will stay until the Auckland meeting. The Final Gallops. Although rain fell heavily about nine o'clock this morning, most of tho work had finished. Horses with engagements at Avondale and Aitckland had their final gallops on the courFe proper, next to the rails. Karapoti again pleased the trackwatchers. while Aspian and Lucidus also displayed brilliancy. Aspian (Brown) was responsible for a brilliant effort by easily defeating Red Lion (Orange) over five furlongs in l.'2i, the last three furloncs taking !575. When the track is firm Aspian displays brilliant speed, but his prospects in the Champion Hack Plato will bo hindered by soft going. After running the first furlong in 13?s. Loombination (Drown) was picked up by Krination (Wilson) and completed four furlongs in 50s. Loombination finished gamely to have a length advantage when the post was reached. This juvenile has been pleasing his trainer and is expected to show up in the Avondale Stakes. Protomint (Rowan) led Te Hoia (Brown) in the early stages of a seven-furlongs gallop, but To Hoia finished strongly to be slightly in front when passing the post, the time being 1.32 2-5. Te lloia has dono an excellent preparation and, although he will be a very difficult horse for a light-weight to ride, should give a good account of himself in the cup race. Biddy's Boy (Orange) and Lucidus (Brown) ran five furlongs, keeping together throughout, in 1.3, tho last half-mile occupying 40s. As this gallop was run in heavy rain, it was an excellent effort, especially on the part of the maiden Lucidus. who was going just as well as his companion at tho finish. TROTTING IN AUSTRALIA. RETURN OF AUCKLANDERS. The Auckland trotting owners, Messrs. .1. and G. MeKendrick. and Mr. E. V. Sutherland, judge to tho Auckland Trotting Club, who visited Australia with the New Zealand bowling team, returned on Monday. Mr. J. MeKendrick stated that the members of the party were most hospitably entertained by Mr. W. S. Howell, secretary to the New South Wales Trotting Club, at whose invitation they were guests at the Victoria Park Racing and Trotting Club meetings. At the trotting meeting '.hero were a few high-class trot I era nnd pacers, but tho majority taking part at the meeting were mediocre. A great race was witnessed between Uktilelo Lad and Marble Ridge over a mile and a-lialf, the former beating the Australian champion in 3.21. In the .same race, a straight-out trotter, Phoenix Dixie, greatly impressed the New Zealanders, and after being in the picture all tho way finished close tip fourth. The meeting was well conducted, tho eight events being got off well to time. Mr. MeKendrick met E. McDonald, the leading New South Wales reinsman. who stated that he would very much like to visit New Zealand, hut could give no definite date owing to tho amount of racing taking place in Australia, where lie is well ablo to place his largo team.
