TE AWAMUTU GALLOPS.

ASPIAN'S SMART EFFORT. BIDDY'S BOY IN FINE FETTLE. TE HOIA AND LUCIDUS. [FROM CITJR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AWAMUTU. Thursday. Fino weather favoured the trainers at To Awamutu this morning and a lot of interesting work was accomplished on the courso proper. Tho two-year-olds sprinted next to tho rails while the older division, who claimed engagements at Avondale and Auckland, wero allowed the outside of tho trestles. Horses on this part of the track covered a good deal of extra ground. The going was in splendid order. King's Knave finished strongly to beat Trishna ovfcr five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, the j Inst four occupying 545. The promising Comedy King gelding is making steady progress and in all hi 3 gallops has shown every sign of being seen to advantage over a journey. Aspian was responsible for a smart eflort by easily defeating All Soult over half a mile in 51s, the last three furlongs taking 38s. Aspian's recent track work has been very encouraging, and. provided he goes on in the right way, he will win some good races this reason. Supremacy was riot extended to run five furlongs in 1.8. lie is a very free worker and his rider had difficulty in keeping him under restraint. With a few more sprints ho will bo in first-class order. Without being bustled, Karapoti ran four furlongs in 525. When not in company this horse goes very fast for the first couple of furlongs but then shows a disposition to loaf. Karapoti has not been overtaxed but ho comes to form quickly and should soon bo ready to show his best. Motere and Marechal ran tho first three furlongs in 455, and completed seven in L3B, finishing on terms. Motere has been working attractively, but carries a robust appearance and will require a race to bring him to his best form, Leitrim ran four furlongs in 56Js. He clapped on the pace over the last two in 25Js. Leitrim is rounding up nicely although it will be some time before he will be thoroughly fit. Pegaway went half-pace over six furlongs, moving a 'ittle smarter over the last two in 28s. Lucidus waß going very easily alongside Kingsway at the end of seven furlongs in 1.38}5, the last four occupying 55}s. Lucidus again worked. pleasingly a,nd A. Cook will produce him in capital trim at Avondale. ... Te Homai completed a serviceable effort over a mile and a-quarter by running the last four furlongs in 575. Biddy's Boy finished a length in front of Red Lion at the end of six furlongs in 1.23, the last half a mile taking 54}s. Biddy's Boy, who bears a bright appearance. and looks exceptionally well, was going comfortably and could have done better. Te Floia and Taurua were associated in a useful task over seven furlongs, tho first three being run in 435, and the full 'distance in 1.36}. As usual. To Hoia had to bo kept up to his work at the finish, but nevertheless it was quite a good effort. Loombination ran four furlongs in 50s, and ho was assisted by Erination over the last two furlongs. Loombination's work is showing improvement. He will be ridden in the Avondale Stakes by Mclnally. Teazan and Sea Ruler got to the end of three furlongs in 3715. Although they finished together. Sea Ruler had a little in hand, while Teazan, who did not appear to handle the right-handed course, was run ning about a lot. Miss Lorraine and the Mnsketoon —Sibrord ! gelding hopped away smartly from the two furlong peg but tWfe former ran wide on the bend, and hit a trestle. The Musketoon juvenile completed the course alone m 265. Miss Lin ley reeled off three furlongs m !37 3-ss, the last two occupying 255. _ This 1 filly stretched out in good stylo, giving a | very satisfactory display.

HORSES AT TE RAPA. PREPARING FOR AVONDALE. SEVERAL INTERESTING EFFORTS. [from our own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Thursday With several horses from local stables engaged at the Avondale meeting, training work on the tracks at Te Rapa is becoming interesting. This morning several interesting efforts were witnessed. The poles were about 25ft. out from the rails on tho course proper for speeding up operations. AS the result of the recent rains the going was heavy, especially along the track stretch. Although Cruachan (King) was doing better than Princess Bede (McLaughlin) when they reached the end of five furlongs in 1.10, tho latter, who requires keeping up to her work, had run about a little. King Ford (Brady) always appeared to be holding Tradesman (McLaughlin* com fortably in running five furlongs, the time being 1.10 The last half mile was run in 55 l-ss. King Ford began with his customary brilliance. J. Cammick is to ride him in the open sprint at Avondale. Baroscope (Bentley) beat Flying Prince (McLaughlin) all the way in a seven furlong effort. . Rippling Waters, who is a candidate for the Avondale Stakes, in which J. Cammick will be her rider,, displayed plenty of speed in running three furlongs down the track in 395. A Potoa three-year-old, from P. Brady's stable, began with Rippling Waters, but the Chiof Ruler— Boynette filly shook him off freely. _ Illumination and Monetize, from Li. fc-ver-son's stable, who have Avondale engagements. worked over a couple of rounds. They were only asked to sprint fast m trie run up the straight. Both are coming forward. W. Rennie will ride Monetize in the hurdles at Avondale. An interesting effort was provided by the Avondale Stakes candidate Lady Whirlwind (Bentley) and Paganelh (Mclnally). The two jumped away m front of Holm (Pell) and ran from the seven to the three furlongs They fin,sbed on terms, the time being 545. Lady Jk hirlwind's opening effort will be watched with m ßoyal Visitor (Thomson and Cargen (N. Syine) jumped four hurdles. Both sha P well Cargen. who is well bred for the hurdling business, will have his first start over hurdles at Avondale. where R. b. Thomson will bo pilot. _ Creina's King (J. Mcßae) and Page Boy (R E Thomson) went about a mile an ■i-half. jumping six flights of hurdles. Both shaped well for novices, but Creina s King gave the better display. The To Awamutu horseman. J. Rae who was riding well at To Rapa this morning, is to pilot Dark Prince in the hurdles at Avondale. THREE-YEAR-OLD PACER SOLD.
