TAKANINI TRACK NEWS.

BRONZE EAGLE'S WORK. BEST GALLOP OF MORNING. IMPROVEMENT BY TEA CHAT. The track was still a little soft at Takanini yesterday, when a fair amount of fast work was performed on tlio outside trass. White Wings was restricted to pace work and Bugle Call did likewise, running home the last three furlongs in 43 l-ss. Both horses look well, but Wbito Wings may show up sooner than her stable mato. Tea Trader (Wallers, ran easily from the two furlong 3in 295, showing a marked desire to bo faster. • This colt looks particularly well, but he has not ha/d a real test since his outing in the parade at Pakuranga. Exaggeration (Gilmer) ran six furlongs in 1.20 4-5, the la6t half-mile in 55 l-6s. Camp Prince (Leach) accompanied her over the last five furlongs, which occupied 1.7 1-5. Exaggeration worked better than in her two previous gallops. Tea Chat ilnglis), although slowing up at the finish, traversed five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. He has a lot of speed, but doas not finish as stoutly as could be desired, although his condition is first-class. Refresher (Stewart! was allotted an easy hall-mile in 565. He looks well and is well forward for spring racing. Chief Jewel (Bagby) was going better than Pompous (Edwards) half a mile in 50 4-ss, but neither was asked for his best. There was little between Columba (Inglis) and Principal (Taylor), the latter being slightly in front, at the end of five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. They were both kicked out. but both are notoriously lazy workers. High Comedy (Bagby), Royal Artist (Walters) and Speedmint (Home) were together at the end of an easy seven furlongs in 1.41 2-5, all going very freely. The hist three furlongs took 42 4-ss. These three-year-olds are doing their work in consistently good style and promise to do good service for their tlainer, P. E. Pope. Ksmehameha (Grire) maintained an even pace while running a mile in 1.58 2-5. The veteran jumper is looking at his best. Catch 'Em. Amber Link. Brazanna and Lord Willonyx were all restricted to paco work, with an increase of pace over the last furlong. They are all members of C. Morse's team and are now thrivintc on their work. . The Guineas candidate Bronze Eagle (McInally) was responsible for the best gallop of the morning. He went about six and a-half furlongs fend was_ travelling fast when he reached the six-furlongs disc From that point he ran two furlongs in 24s and was then picked up by, Heremia, (Craig). They were together at the three in 375, but Heremia then came away to finish two lengths in front. Bronzo Eaglo's time for six furlongs being 1.17 8-5 and Heremia's for half a mile 535. Bronze Eaglo was stopping a little at the end, he travelled fast in the early stages, and this was not surprising. Heremia worked very nicely and he will have to bo considered in coming maiden races. Eaglet (Stewart) got through some solid pace work to finish at a strong paco over the last furlong. Ganpat (Bagby). Dominican (Inglis) and Clopton (Stewart) were practically m line at the end of a mile with the first two going best,, in 1.51.2-5. There was no pace on early, but it increased the last half-mile, which was run in 55 1-s*. Ganpat and Dominican both did their work attractively. . . . , Vandyke (Craig) was not doing his best to stride over half a mile in 58 l-ss. this horse is coming on well, but may need a little more work before reaching his oest. Lady Vane (Craig) moved freely over five furlongs in 1.6 3-5 She has sharpened iip with recent gallops, but may need careful plncing to pay her way. . Bell Topper, Gay Marigold. Running Oyer and Trustee were others to do useful work.

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE. TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP. Malahat, winner of the Jellicoe Handicap at tho Pakuranga Hunt meeting last month, is due to arrive from Gisboine to-day. Malahat is engaged in the Avondale Cup. Royal Mint suffered a recurrence of his old trouble, a burst hoof, during the running of the Hunters' *l'lat Handicap at Wingatui la6t Saturday, and it is probable he will have to be given another spell from racing. The imported mare Glentruin has produced a colt to Woodend, and has been bred to Balboa. Glentruin produced Locklaggun, and in being bred to Balboa gives him tho best chance ever accorde<l tho son of Varco. White Wings seems to do best on a light preparation and at present the Limond mare has a very bright appearance. She is working as if she really enjoys her tasks, and she is likely to make a good showing in early engagements. The Paper Money maro The Graphic, who broke down in Victoria some months ago. has been retired to the stud and will visit the Valais horse Valiant this season. She was at one time in hands of tho Invercurgill trainer P. W. Ellis. Timorous and Closing Time are a pair of juveniles in J. T. Jamieson's stables that are bookei to open their racing careers at Avondale. They nre among the afternoon workers, and, although little has been seen of them, they aro fairly well forward in condition. When Full Fenthei was sold by Sir Charles Clifford a few months ago it was (bought his racing career was over and that ho would bo retired to tho stud. Apparently, however, he is in training again, as he figures among the list of nominations for tho Kurow Cup. Latin Quarter ip in preparation at Invgrcargill for tho New Zealand Cup, but there is a doubt about him remaining sound. lie is an aged gelding by Thurnham from Moulin Rouge, by Kilbroney from Directoire. the dam of tho jumpers Paris. Apache and Tnramoa. Tho apprentico G. Grice, who is attached to W. GosrombV stable at Takanini, will have his licence granted in time to rido at Avondale, where lie will have his first mount on Running Over. Grice handles his mounts well on the track and may do well with a little public experience. The Takanini trainer F. Smith has not been bard on his two-year-olds, Greek Gold and Holly Lu, during recent weeks. Both were allowed to drop out. of the Avondale Stakes, but, they aro thrivingwell and may carry silk for the first time in the Musket Stakes on the second day at Ellorslie. Ruffles has been undergoing a. course of schooling since ho raced at Pakuranga and ho is expected to make his debut as a jumper in the Kingsland Hurdles at Avondale. The Quin Abbey gelding will be ridden bv P. Mellroy, who will also have the mount on Kamehamcha on the second day of that fixture. One of G. Holland's recent additions is tho three-year-old Herbie, by Surveyor— Pell. He showed a little speed Inst spring, but, after running unplaced at Avondale. was not produced again. So far he lias not done any work that would give an indication whether he Ins made nnv improve ment as a result of his long spell. RACING FIXTURES. September 19—Wnnganui Jockoy Club.
