EWE WITH SIX LAMBS.
A METHVEN RECORD. '1 he general reports from the Methven district show that so far this season there have been exceptionally large percentages of lambs, says the Ashburton Guardian. All records in the Methven area, and perhaps other districts, have been eclipsed by a Shropshire full-mouth stud ewe owned by Mr. Martin Macale, which gave birth to six - fully-developed lambs. Unfortunately the severe weather of last week was accompanied by heavy frosts, which did not give young lambs much chance to survive if at all weakly. Going round his flock shortly after daybreak Mr. Macale made the discovery of the ewe with six lambs lying near by. Out of the number only one lamb had survived the rigour of the cold, wet ground and the hard frost. The owner has had a number of ewes in the same flock with up to three lambs at foot, and in the case under notice he is satisfied that there was no "pirating" of lambs by the ewe in question.
