YACHT SAILS FOR SUVA.

DEPARTURE OF ARETHUSA. SEND-OFF BY LARGE CROWD. Several hundred people gathered at Queen's Wharf early yesterday afternoon to st:e the departure for Suva of the auxiliary yacht Arethusa. Flying the pennant oi the Whangarei Cruising Club, the yacht left the wharf punctually at two o'clock on her voyage of 1145 miles. Three cheers were given by the crowd and, under her engine power, the yacht moved quickly into tho stream, where her mainsail and headsails were set. With the owner, Mr. A. Hereward Pickmere, a surveyor, employed in Fiji by the British Government, were Mr. Mervyn Robinson, Mr. J. Robinson and Mr. R. Widdicombe. Mr. Pickrnere will use the Arethusa in survey work at Fiji. With the exception of Mr. J. Robinson, who will return to New Zealand, the crew will remain with the vessel indefinitely. The voyage to Suva is expected to occupy from ten days to a fortnight, but provisions are carried sufficient for a two-months' cruise. A direct course is to be set for Kandavu Island, about 60 miles from Suva. Tho Arethusa was purchased recently by Mr Pickmere from Mr. Rov Lidgard, of Bayswater. Built at Auckland in 1917 by Mr. R. B. Brown, of the Arethusa has a length of 34ft., a breadth of lift. 4in. and a draught of 4ft. 6in. She has a gross tonnage of 11.2.

TEDDY'S MOVEMENTS. TRIP TO WHANG A REI. The Norwegian yacht Teddy moved from her moorings at Mechanics' Bay early yesterday afternoon and berthed alongside the floating crane between Queen's Wharf and Central Wharf. She is to leave to-morrow afternoon for Whangarei., where her owner, Mr. Erling Tambs, will give an address under the auspices of the Whangarei Cruising Club on his experiences in his travels around the world. Considerable interest is being taken in Whangarei in the Teddy's visit. She is expected to arrive there on Sunday afternoon, and she will be met at Urquhart's Bay, inside Whangarei Harbour, about noon by the Mayor of Whanga.rei and civic officers. Several of the local pleasure craft will escort the Teddy to the Whangarei Wharf. Mr. T'ambs expects to return to Auckland from Whangarei about next Thursday, and about ten days later he will leave with his wife and family on a trip to Tonga. He will return to Auckland about Christmas to defend the Tasman Cup.
