At the last, meeting of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom the matter of holding a disarmament meeting in the Town Hall was discussed, and arrangements were made for asking the assistance of other organisations. Letters of sympathy with the object of the proposed meeting and regret that Parliamentary duties would prevent them from taking part were read from the Prime Minister, the Pit. Hon. G. W. Forbes, the Hon. J. G. Coates and Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., the last-mentioned suggesting that a similar meeting be held in Wellington. The outstanding success of the Albert Hall meeting in London was a matter for congratulation, a? was Tno large number of signatures being secured for the petition from all over the world. The numbers for New Zealand are steadily increasing, being now in the vicinity of 6000 —thanks to the efforts of many organisations who are rendering valuable aid to the league in this work. Suggestions for meeting the heavy expenses entailed in circulating the petition and in posting the completed lists of names to Geneva were discussed, and further efforts to secure signatures were decided on. If was decided to extend the time for sending the last petition forms away till the end of October. The members expressed a fervent hope that the Disarmament Conference will not be postponed. The annual election of officers resulted ii Mrs. A. Morris being chosen as president. Mrs. L. R. Crookshank treasurer. Mrs. K. Gibson corresponding secretary, and Mrs. M. B. Soljak organising secretary.
