MY OWN VERY FORWARD. ROYAL HUNTING'S PROSPECTS. [KROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HASTINGS. Saturday. The Hastings track was on the heavy side this morning. There were one or two gallops on the plough, which is on the slow side, but most o1 the work consisted of cantering and trotting. Great Charter sprinted half a mile on the plough in 51s. He does not act well on this track. . The grey gelding Araunah (Hunting bong —liewanga) sprinted three furlongs on the plough with the black mare by Leighton— Caress in ,')7;s, a very fair gallop. '1 ne Leighton mare is a promising maiden. Her dam, Caress, is by Martian from Trichas. by Thrush. Gold Trail and Nea Lap were given easy work on the plough. My Own and Jenny Diver also worked on the plough, the former being allotted stron. work. She is very forward and will most likely be the Hawke's Bay main representative for the New Zealand Cup meeting. Head Serang and Cuticle galloped half a mile 011 the plough in 535, neither being extended. Hunt Ball (Hunting Song—Tatau Tatau). looking well, cantered a couple of times round 011 the plough. He is rather a good worker, with • plenty of substance and size. Dynamic's name has been changed to Queen Diadem. This youngster is rather a promising galloper. Royal Hunting bounded along in his work and is very fresh. He should run well in his Napier Park engagements. Goshawk, looking a picture, worked 011 the plough, goin<r frcelv Pillow Fight, Flamingo and Princess Bell did not nut in an appearance 011 the track. Night Speaker worked well on the plough. Mr. G. Strutliers has taken charge of the Mana Stud in place of Mr. J. Hay. The name Tho Plumber has bean given to tho Day Comet—Lady Hume gelding. He is a good cut of a horse for a jumper. PURCHASE FOR WHANGAREI. The stallion Paladin, by Polymelia from Cestus. who realised 250 guineas at tho sale of the late Mr. A. G. TTill's stud at East Taieri last week, was purchased by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company on behalf of Mr. L. W. Nelson, of Whangarei. Nil'. Nelson, who is a member of the executive of the New Zealand Racing Conference and a member of the Auckland district committee, has always taken a keen interest in breeding and is evidently going to carry on a small stud of his own, as ho has also acquired a number of brood mares in tho past few years.
