NATIONAL THEATRE.

The snow-bound goldfields of Alaska form an appropriate background for the thrilling story of adventure and romance unfolded in "The Spoilers," which is being enthusiastically received at the National Theatre. The picture has been modelled on the well-known novel by Rex Beach, and has been filmed on an unusually spectacular scnle. The leading'role, that of a typical product of the frozen north, who is over ready to take the law into his own hands, is admirably portrayed by Gary Cooper. James Kirkwood gives a faithful characterisation as Cooper's rival, and Kay Johnson makes an attractive heroine. Betty Compton is responsible for further splendid acting and Harry Green acquits himself well in a humorous role. There is aft excellent supporting programme, which includes the final episode of "Heroes of the .Flames." " The "White Devil," the screen version of a Tolstoy jiovel, will be presented on Friday. The story, which is set against tho backgrounds of the Caucasian Mountains and the Imperial Court of Russia, deals with the intrigue and plotting that were rife in Russia in the 19th century. The Don Cossacks Choir and the Russian Ballet appear in the production.
