DAMAGE TO PARK TREES. fTOWN IMPROVEMENT PROPOSALS. Damage to 50 young macrocarpa trees ■which had been planted at Chalky Point Reserve was reported by the Works Committee of the Papakura Town Board at a meeting last evening. It was stated that children were responsible for the damage. They had been severely reprimanded. A suggestion that a weekly or fortnightly rubbish collection be instituted in the district was received from a ratepayer. It was decided to reply that a regular collection could only be instituted subject to a charge being made to the ratepayers for the service. The Great South Road Beautifying Council suggested that some scheme of beautification might be carried out on an area of reserve opposite the Presbyterian Church, and it offered to make a grant toward the cost of the work. The matter .was referred to the Reserves Committee. The Works Committee reported that remetalling work had been carried out in Green Street, Broadway, Union Street, Opaheke Road, Chapel Street, Clarke Road, Wood Street and the Clevedon highway, and that a footpath had been formed at the western end of Beach Road.
