MISSION STEAMER DELAYED.
MINOR ENGINE TROUBLE. TO SAIL AT NOON TO-MORROW. Minor mechanical trouble in the engine room of tho Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross has delayed tho departure of the vessel from mid-day to-day until tho same hour to-morrow. Tho Southern Cross will havo as passengers the Bishop of Melanesia, Bishop Molyneux, and his newly-consecrated assistant, Bishop J. H. Dickinson. Other passengers will bn Sister N. Stead, of England, who is joining the mission as a recruit, and who is going to Siota, Sister H. Leishman, who is returning to lorgil after furlough in Australia, and Miss 11. Brougliton, who is proceeding to Raga after furlough in England. Two young men from King's College, Messrs. Clark and Archdall, and an Auckland resident, Mr. C. Richards, will also make the trip. In tho course of tho voyage tho Southern Cross will cover between 0000 and 9000 miles. Sho will proceed from Auckland to the Now Hebrides, thence calling at the Banks, Torres, Santa Cruz and Solomon Islands. Ihe trip is expected to occupy about three months, the ship returning to Auckland shortly beforo Christmas. Included in the cargo will bo a number of Christmas "tuck-boxes" given by l es.dents of tho South Island for members of tho mission staff. A dismissal service will bo held at 9.30 this morning in St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell.
