THE OYSTER SEASON.
FAIR DEMAND EXPERIENCED. CLOSING DATE NOT ANNOUNCED. Hie fact that authority to release tha announcement of the date for the closing of the oyster season had been taken from him, and that the date would be given from Wellington, -was stated by Mr. 13. Flvnn, inspector of fisheries at Auckland, on Saturday. Mr. Flynn said the season opened on July 2, but he was unable to say when it would close. Supplies had been drawn from beds in the Hauraki Gulf, the Bay of Islands, and the Kaipara and Whangarei Harbours, and had been sufficient to meet a fair demand. Prices remained on a level with those ruling last season, and the quality of the oysters was good.
Last year the season opened on June 26 and closed on September 20.
