MUNICIPAL ABBATOIR.

REDUCED CHARGES SOUGHT.

An application by the Master Union for a reduction of 10 per cent, in the charges at the municipal abattoir was considered by the City Council last evening. The union based its request on the 10 per cent, cut in wages. ■ The abattoir manager, Mr. R. Rugg, reported that the abattoirs award was about to expire, and the men's union would ask for substantial wage increases for certain sections of piece-workers. He recommended that consideration of the charges be deferred until after the new award had been made. • This course was adopted.
