BRIDGE EVENING.

A very successful bridge evening, organised by the New Zealand Returned Army Sisters' Association, was held in the Lewis Eady Hall on Wednesday evening with the object of raising funds for an Anzac Day presentation to tho Returned Soldiers' Association. Tho guests were received by the president, Miss Cumming, and the secretary, Miss Martyn, upon arrival. Other members of tho committee responsible for the success of the function were Miss Bagley, Miss Early, Miss Cherry and Miss Hood. There wore sixty-two tables occupied by players, the hostesses being Mesdarnes de Journey, Brooks, Newman, Daniels, Coltman, Wilcox, Cumming, Plummer, Chapman, Tewsley, O'Connor, Wales, Worth, Esson, Bews, Lee, Evans, Tite. Bishop, Haresnape, Dr. Champtaloup, and the Misses Early, Cunningham, Bagley, Bird, Mandeno, Eddy, Skeat, Scopes, Coldicutt. ' Murry, Farquhar, Kent, Keyes, Hosking, Wilson, Sims, Hood, Comrie, Palmer, Jennings, Walker, Downes, Campbell, Miller, ...McMaster, Adlington, Cook, McLay, Nutsey, Rennell, Grey, Fiirley, Mainland, Montgomery, and Wright. Among others present were Mrs. Ropiha. Mrs. Cranwell, Mrs. Goldsmith, Miss Brown, Miss Parkinson, Miss Gresham, Miss Barker and Miss Darcy Jones. The prizes were allotted not for highest scoring, but for those nearest to tho hidden numbers. Miss Coleman, having the exact number, won the prize for the highest number, and Dr. Champtaloup, being the nearest to the low number, won the second prize. At the conclusion of the evening a special vote of thanks was passed to Miss Quale for her generosity and help and to those who augmented the funds by means of private subscription. The evening, including the catering, was done by the sisters themselves, _so that expenses were reduced to a minimum.
