REFORM LEAGUE.

WOMEN AND POLITICS. Keen interest was taken at a largelyattended meeting of ladies held at the residence of Mrs. A. Campbell, Queen Street, Northcote, on Tuesday afternoon in order to further the interests of Mr. Alex. Harris, M.P., member for the Reform Party for Waitemata. Miss P. King, official member of the Reform League, addressed the meeting and spoke of the valuable work that could be done by women's organisations and the great assistance that could be given to t|ie party's candidate by tho co-opera-tion of the women in the district. Miss King said the present difficult times make it more imperative for New Zealand to establish sound and safe government of its people, and pointed out that the powerful influence possessed by women in the conduct of a political campaign, if directed in the right way, could ensure success to the Reform Party. Mr. J. B. Paterson, president of tho Parnell Reform League, gave an interesting address on the aims and objects of the Reform Party. It was unanimously resolved that a women's branch of the party be formed at Northcote, and the following officers were elected :—President, Mrs. Martin ; vice-president, Mrs. Potter, sen.; secre-tarial-treasurer, Mrs. F. H. Eades; with a strong working committee. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Campbell and to Miss King and Mr. Paterson. A delicious afternoon tea was served at the conclusion of tho meeting. EDEN ELECTORATE. A social evening and rally of Reform members of the Eden electorate was held in St. Barnabas' Hall, Mount_ Eden, to meet the official Reform candidate, Mr. R. Glover-Clark, and Mrs.' Glover-Clark. Prior to the actual meeting, the members of each area appointed delegates to the Eden electorate executive. Mr. T. Mclndoe presided over a large attendance, and gave an encouraging address when introducing Mr. and Mrs. GloverClark. Mr. Glover-Clark when replying was greeted with an ovation, which _is an indication of the enthusiasm with which the Eden Reform members are facing the coming election. Mr. GloverClark briefly gave his reasons for offering himself as a candidate in the Reform interests, stressing the point that he, with other candidates, recognised the fact that the Reform Party, under the leadership of the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, was the only party to handle the country's affairs. Among those present were Mr. Geo. Wildish, ex-Mayor of Gisborne, and Mrs. Wildish, both of whom gave very interesting addresses and stressed the point that the future prosperity and stability of New Zealand was dependent on the success of the Reform Party at the next election. The Hon. F. Mander reviewed the present political situation. During the evening soprano solos were given by Miss Cecelia Pringle, violin solos by Mr. G. Fowler, Madame Grace Griffiths playing the accompaniments. Mr. Hugh Aickin proposed a very hearty vote of thank 3 to the assisting artists.
