GORED BY A BULL.

farmers serious injuries. WIFE COMES TO RESCUE. HAY-FORK USED AS WEAPON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, Thursday. A farmer on the Tukituki settlement, Haumoana, near Hastings, Mr. 0. Avison, was terribly injured by a Jersey bull which turned upon him and gored him on his farm on Tuesday. His clothing was practically torn from his body when his wife, who very bravely attacked the bull with a hay-fork, came to the rescue. It is stated that the bull is ordinarily most docile and it had never previously given any suspicion that it was ill-tem-pered. Mr. Avison had been accustomed to leading it about and on Tuesday was probably leading it through a paddock in the usual way. His cries attracted the attention of his wife and after some time she drove the bull off, and with assistance from neighbours took her husband into safety. Mr. Avison was not fit to be removed until yesterday afternoon, when he was taken to the Hastings Memorial Hospital. It is reported that his injuries are serious but not critical. He is suffering considerably from shock.
