CHILEANS LEFT BEHIND.

ONE FINDS EMPLOYMENT. OTHERS STILL IN CUSTODY. ! OWN GOVERNMENT NOT TO ACT,. f No actior. is to be taken by the Government of Chile in regard to the three Chilean sailors who remained in Auckland after the departure for Valparidso last Thursday of the training ship General Baquedano. The men were arrested und charged with vagrancy. " I have received advice as to the attitude of the Chilean Government through tha Consul-Gieneral for the Republic at Sydney," said Mr. E. A. Craig, Consul for Chile, yesterday. " The men are now entirely .in the hands of the authorities in New Zealand." One of the seamen, Jose Miguel Munoz, was brought before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. A position having been found for this man by Mr. Craig, who acted in the matter in a private capacity, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. The effect of this decision is tha'i Munoz is released from custocy and i:3 now free to accept an offer of employment on a fishing launch operated by a countryman who has been a resident of Auckland for about 14 years. The other two sailors, Carlos Mery and Diomicio Urzuia, are still in custody, but probably they will appear in the Police Court this week on the charge preferred against them. It is most probable that their release will be secured in the event of employment being found for them. The three men were arrested, some hours after 'the departure of the General Baquedano, in an empty house near the Waitakere Ranges. They had no money except a shilling possessed, by one of them and were clad partly in their uniforms arid partly iu other clothing.
