BOMB AT EMBASSY.
DEATH NARROWLY ESCAPED. REVENGE BY PORTUGUESE. (Received August 30, 7.5 p.m.) Times Cable. LONDON, August 20. The Madrid correspondent of the Times states that a bemb was thrown through an open window in the writing room of the Portuguese Embassy at Madrid, in which the Ambassador, Senhor Bareto, and his wife were sitting. Senhor Bareto bent down to pick up the missile, but his wife hurried him from the room. A second later the bomb exploded and wrecked the furniture.
There is no clue to the identity of the throwers, but it is believed that Portuguese exiles were attempting to take vengeance for the failure of the rising on Wednesday.
