FINANCES OF BRAZIL.
FOREIGN LOAN REPAYMENTS. SUSPENSION ANNOUNCED. (Received August 31, 12.15 a.m.) RIO DE JANEIRO, August 30. The suspension of payments for the amortisation of the Federal loans was announced yesterday after an arrangement by the Government with New York and London bankers. The suspension of payments is indefinite, and a resumption is contingent on a recovery in value of Brazilian currency.
The total of Brazil's debt on December 31, 1930, was £138,074,382. Of the total £100,569,751 was due on 15 loans in Loudon and £8,837,232 in Paris. Tho four loans from America total £28.667,399. Sir Otto Niemeyer recently visited Brazil to advise on the finances.
