ELLERSLIE TRAINING.

BY ARCHER

TANERIRI IN GOOD HEART. PURIRI PARK DOiNG WELL. MANAWHENUA'S CONDITION.

Good going was provided on the No. 3 grass at Ellerslie and some very interesting work was accomplished, the best gallop being a smartly-run six furlongs by Tane-

riri, who should be right at the top of his form for the Avondale meeting next month. Land Measure, after going a furlong at three-quarter pace, was joined at the threefurlongs post by Tamarado, and they ran home in 39 2-53. Land Measure is doing well and her physical fitness should be a factor in her favour in hack hurdle events at the spring meetings.

Pal (Cammiek) sprinted four furlongs in 51 4-ss, going fairly well for a novice. He is not yet at his best and M. Ryan may bo able to improve him quite a lot in the next few months.

United and The Jack Jumper were not bustled to run four furlongs in 52 3-ss. and they both had a little in reserve at the finish. United is still very lean and lanky, but he has brightened up in the past week and seems to bo on the up-grade, although lie is not putting on a great deal of condition.

Titanette and Good Idea ran an easy six furlongs in 1.27, and Capere also went at his ease over the same distance in 1.34. Good Idea is thriving well and although she has not been asked any serious questions lately she promises to be an improved mare this season, when sho should pay her way in the hack ranks. Novices Gallop Well. Brown Prince (Conquest) and Scotland Yard (Mcßae) ran their first threo furlongs in 39 l-5s and completed six furlongs in 1.10 4-5, a very satisfactory effort for novices. They were on terms at the finish, where Scotland Yard was being kicked up to his work and Brown Prince was going the easier. Brown Prince is steadily improving and will be well forward to race at the spring meetings. Light Step (Fuller) and Marchette (Cammick) ran the first two of five furlongs in 27 1-53, and completed the full distance in 1.8 4-5. These novices are good robust types who have not been hurried, but they are getting through their work very satisfactorily. Marchette is a half-sister, by Limond, to Te Kara and Queen March, and she should not disgrace the family ii she stands up to serious training. Manawhenua did not exert himseli unduly while running four furlongs in 52%-ss. Manawhenua is a very healthy and contented horse and he is carrying a particularly bright appearance at present. He should be better than ever this season. A Good Six Furlongs. Lightly weighted, Taneriri infused plenty of dash into his six-furlongs gallop, running the first three furlongs in the fast time of 3G 4-ss, and the full distance in 1.18 1-5. The second three furlongs was considerably slower than the first, but Taneriri did his work in good style and pulled up well. If he continues on as he is doing at present Taneriri is sure to be among the early fancies for the Avondale Cup. Karangapai was not hurried to run foui furlongs in 52 3-ss. and Wild Country went rather well in running six furlongs in 1.20 4-ss. Steady improvement can be expected from Karangapai in the next few weeks and it will be surprising if he fails to perform with some success in the hack class at the spring meetings Ridden bv L. Clifford, who 13 very light, Royal Gallant demonstrated that.he has lost none of his speed by running five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. The first furlong was run in 13s, two in 24 4-53, and the last three in 39 3-ss. which was a very creditable effort for a novice, even though he was not carrying a great deal of weight. Royal Gallant undoubtedly has pace enough to win races and he may be more solid as a three-year-old than he was as a juvenile. Waraloon's Half-mile. Waraloon (Fuller) displayed mors speed than Sir Val (Mcßae) and beat him over four fvirion£3 in 51 l-ss. Waraloon's work has not been good enough to suggest that she is anything better than the ordinary novice, but in short sprints she is displaying as much speed as most of those in her class at headquarters. Great Emblem and Puriri Park were responsible for a solid working effort over six furlongs, running the first three in 33 4-ss, and the full distance in 1.20 4-5. Puriri Park was revelling in hia task at the end and Great Emblem went very satisfactorily for a novice. Puriri Park should be nn improved horse when ho reappears at the spring meetings. Whirlalong and the Romeo—Air Queen filly were allowed to stride along over three furlongg in 425. As usual, Whirlalong did her work in good style and the Romeo filly also shaped well in her first attempt to go in any way fast. Neil (Williams) jumped two pony hurdles and afterwards accompanied Kouranui (Olive) in a bout over four hurdles. Neil and Konrnanui are both shaping well for beghmers and, with regular schooling, should soon become proficient jumpers. Cri-toma. who has not been overtaxed since racing at Pnkuranga, was given useful work on the tan. He is very bright and healthy and should be in capital trim forthe Avondale meeting.

TAKANINT TRACK NEWS: REFRESHER AND EAGLET. SPRINT OVER HALF-A-MILE. Weather conditions were fine but cold at Takanini on Saturday when the middle grass was freely used for galloping. Although not fast it was in good order. Tea Chat (Bagby) led Gaiipat (Stewart) over the early stages of a six furlongs gallop, but Ganpat wore him down to finish a length in front in 1.20. Tea Chat ran the first two furlongs in 26s # and threo in 40 1-5. but he; is not running on as well as could bo desired. Ganpat's effort showed that he is better for his race at Pakuranga. Chief Jewel, who is only now commencing to brighten up, sprinted up tho straight. He will not be ready for some weeks yet. Russky (Edwards) and Holly Lu (Taylor) were on terms half a length in front of Greek Gold (Gilmer) at the end of three furlongs in 395. Russky, on the outside, : and Holly Lu, carrying most weight, both did their work well. There was little between Amber Link (Forsyth) and Catch 'Em (Feme) at the. end of five furiongs in 1,6 2-5, the last three in 40 2-ss. An usual Catch 'Em was running on strongly at the finish. Refresher (Stewart) and Eaglet (Itiglis) both put a lot of dash into a half-mile sprint in 535. upon which they could'have improved. Eaglet is now coming on rapidly. High Comedy and Royal Artist, together, and Bronze Eagle, alone, worked -er six furlongs at three-quarter pace. All these three-year-olds arc thriving splendidly, and they promise to be well in the limelight at Avondale. Clopton (Tnglis), Columba (Edwards) and Brazanna (Ferne) finished in that order over half a mile in 52 4-ss. Clopton is sprinting well for a horse of his class, but Brazanna.. who led the others early, was stopping at the end. , . Dominican (Stewart) was too good for Arch Ruler (Farrell) over half a mile in 53 2-ss. Arcli Ruler .is a green horse who has not yet been seriously tried. . Heremia (Craig) jumped away slightly in advance of Lady Vane (Mclnnlly) and easily held her at Vhe finish of hnlf ft mile in 53 4-s*. Heremia is a good solid sort and is likely to improve, but Lady \ ane rarelv works impressively. . Tea Trader (Walters) broke away in front of Speedmint (Home) at the half-mile, but waited for her at the three and they ran home together under a strong pull, Speedmint recording s(j 3-5s for half ft mile, and the' pair 42 2-5s for tho last three furlongs It was merely a working effort. Bell Tapper (Bngby) ran easily from the six furlongs to tho three m 44 2-:>s. lie did his work very quietly and seems to be settling down.
