FOUNDING OF HAMILTON.
THE 67TH ANNIVERSARY. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Monday. To-day was the 67th anniversary of the founding of the town of Hamilton. On August 24, 1864, the 4th Company of the Waikato Militia, under the command of Captain William Steele, arrived from Wairoa by way of the Waikato River. The pioneers first set to work to build a redoubt and when this had been completed, and tlio site of Hamilton East laid out, they balloted for their town sections.
