GENERAL ELECTION.

AUCKLAND EAST SEAT. REFORM PARTY'S CHOICE. A decision to submit the name of Sir George Richardson to the Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. lion. J. G. Coates, for endorsement as the Reform candidate for Auckland East at the general election was made at a meeting of Reform electors last evening. Mr. J. A. Holloway, president of the Auckland East executive of the party, introduced Sir George to the meeting, at which there was an attendance of 75, including many women. Sir George explained that ho had had no intention of standing for Parliament until a largelysigned petition was presented to him by a representative deputation. In view of the fact that lie had previously informed a representative of Miss E. Melvillo 'that he was not standing, Sir George said ho had deferred giving a definite answer to the deputation until he had acquainted Miss Melville with the changed condi tions. He accepted the invitation to stand as a clear call to duty. While lie was not critical of other political parties, he felt the Reform Party was the one most likely to reach the objective of restoring economic prosperity to New Zealand, and ho intended to work on a plan for the development of that object. The meeting then endorsed the candidature of Sir George Richardson.
