SIX YARDS OF RAIN.
MILFORD SOUND'S RECORD
With a total rainfall last year of 214.9 ■inches, or nearly six yards, Milford Sound was easily the wettest place in the Dominion at which records were taken. The rainfall records are kept there by tho manager of the hostel, and his figure for the year had a clear-cut win over tho many figures supplied from other parts of New Zealand. Upper Mangorei, Taranaki, came second with 157 inches, and Otira third with 140.54 inches. The record for the wettest day goes to Maraehako, Opotiki, where on February 15 11 inches of rain fell. Otira and Arthur's Pass are next with about 10 inches apiece on rainy days in January.
