ISLAND BANANAS.
RECOVERY FROM HURRICANE. NORFOLK ISLAND ORANGES. According to Captain' Boulton, master of the Government motor-ship Maui Pomare, which arrived at Auckland on Saturday, the plantations at Apia have recovered from the damage they sustained during the hurricane experienced last Christmas Day. Plenty of bananas from that source are now available. Tha plantations at Niue Island have not dona so well, due to lack of rain. There was sufficient fruit offering to provide a full load for the Maui Pomare. The vessel brought 9000 cases of bananas, 2500 of which she unloaded at Dunedin on Tuesday. A similar quantity was discharged at Lyttelton and Wellington and, the balance will be unloaded at Auckland. The fruit supply at Auckland has been further augmented by a consignment, which arrived from Norfolk Island by the steamer Hikurangi yesterday. She brought nearly 3000 cases of oranges in addition, to about 100 cases of potatoes, tomatoes, and beans.
