A STATEMENT AWAITED. By Telegraph—Press A (isociation—Copyright. (Received August 23. 8.45 p.m.) LONDON, August 23. The next meeting of the Cabinet is fixed for seven o'clock this evening. The Sunday Express says the Cabinet has decided to resist the temptation to resign and will take the responsibility and let Parliament decide its fate. The Sunday Express says it believes that the Government's plans now include an internal luxury tax, doubling the entertainment tax, {several forms of direct taxation, and a reduction in the pay of Civil Servants. The cut in police pay may be minimised. The Sunday Times stays the talk of an election is not credited in any quarter. The Ministry will be reconstructed or replaced. It may be taken for granted that Mr. Snowden will propose an increase in the income tax and higher duties on beer and tobacco. Thus the Government hopes to convince its supporters that it is demanding equality of sacrifice. Hie News of the World says the Government has prepared a statement which is designed to reassure foreign opinion that the Budget will be balanced. This may be published to-night. It is hoped it will end the financial crisis. As regards the political crisis, Mr. Mac Donald is resolved to submit his policy to Parliament.
