The Whangarei branch of the Plunket Society held a daffodil day on Saturday. The sals of Sowers and badges realised £54.

An investiture and reception is to be held by Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and the Lady Bledisloe at Government House in Wellington on September 3.

The Papamoa branch of the Women's Institute held a fancy dress children's dance in the Papamoa Hall last week. There was a very large atteendance. The hall was decorated with blue and gold streamers, and Sirs. C. 0. Riddell supplied the music. Extras wer# played by Slesdames Reid, Fagan and Sliss Heerdegem

A very pleasant bridge and five hundred card afternoon was held at the residence of Sirs. Chapman, Slassey Road. Slangere East. The proceeds were in aid of the Croquet Club funds. Sirs. Ellison won the trophy for bridge and Sirs. Wilton won the five hundred, Sirs. Menzies being the winner for the hidden number.

A very enjoyable concert was given by the Mangawara schoolchildren, the proceeds of which are to take them to Auckland to see the War Memorial Sluseum. Sirs. E. SlcGregor also contributed an item, which was greatly appreciated. After the concert a dance was held, excellent music being supplied by the Slaori string orchestra, conducted by Sir. Percy Dixon.

The Mount Albert Scouts held a very enjoyable dance recently. The Scout Committee who acted as chaperon es were:— Sirs. Wilfred Gladding, Mrs. Smith wick, Sirs. Hyde. Sirs. Hulme. Sirs. Bennett. Mrs. Halliday, Sirs. G. SI. Fowlds and Sirs. Slcßride. A successful bring-and-buy afternoon was also held. The committee members in charge of stalls were: Slesdames Smithwick. Hulme, Batkin, Fowlds, Hyde, Gladding and Slcßride, who were assisted by the Rover Scouts. The convener was Mrs. Sraithwiek, who was assisted by Sirs. Hulme. The fanelion was opened by Sirs. Alfred Bennett, president of the Scout Committee.

A most enjoyable evening was given on Saturday by Sirs. Stuart Boyd at her residence. R-ewiti, Takapuna. at which the guest of honour was Sir. D. W. Faigan, who during the winter months has given lectures in literature. As a mark of appreciation the presentation of an inkstand and pen was made to Sir. Faigan by Sirs. Reuben Watts. Autographs of famous writers were exhibited bv Sirs. Boyd. Among those present were: —Sirs. Reuben Watts. Sirs. Morton, Sliss Hard wick, Sliss Rnassr, Sliss Law son. Sirs. H. C. Levett. Sirs. A. S. The Whangarei High School Old Pupils' Association and Girls* Hockey Club held a combined dance in the parochial hall on Wednesday. There was a large attendance, including a number of visitors from the Dargavilla High School Old Pupils' Association. The hall was decorated with coloured streamers.
