UNITY FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD.
Sir—We are ail looking for a reformed world, Socialists and capitalists alike, and unless some great outstanding man arrives from somewhere on the scene the on!? tray we can accomplish that is to lav: aside our animosities (recognising that abase is no argument, and obstruction no help), and see what each can constructively contribute to tie common good, being careful to give honour only where honour is due. New Zealand is but, a small country, but that, ought to make collaboration easier. We are not divided bv class prejudices or meaningless distinctions, and the average, of our intelligence is clear, and the sabstancf _of it is sound. By a great co-operative eSort the Russians are trying to develop fully _ the resources of their Empire. By competitive follies tie resources of cur country are largely undeveloped and our countrymen unemployed. We are not obliged to cooperate on Marxian principles. Some far better ones were given to the world nearly 2000 years ago—why not try them for a change? It isn't the quantity one has. but tiie use one can; make of that quantity that chieSy counts. A good digestion is better than an enormous appetite, and a waster is only another name for a fool. We shall all find out who's who and what's what before long. Some of us wall find it out bo our joy and some of ns to our sorrow, unless we watch happenings more . carefully. Where, there is -no humility there can: be no grace. The Russian plan may be temporarily checked by haphazard, unrelated methods, but it will not be until we bring ail our faculties, raised bo their highest power, to bear upon that subject,- or upon any subject, until we caa. really concentrate upon it, that w® can truly master it We-must find our true power of. concentration or. go under, and heaven send that we don't go under.
