AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
WINTER COMPETITIONS.
The winter competitions under the control of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club were continued at the Domain on Saturday under ideal conditions, good fields competing 111 all events. Three heats were necessary in the 75 yards handicap, the final of which was brilliantly won by R. Munro, who was 011 the virtual scratch mark. Bell and Adams filled the minor places. Adams and Murphy were the early leaders in the 2i-miies steeplechase, which was run over four laps of the Domain course. Starting on the final lap Dowle had charge from Green, McNiel, Henshall and Nicholson. This order was maintained to the finish. Dowle winning by 10 yards from Green, with Allan close up third. Following are the results:— 75 Yards Handicap.—First heat: Munro, 4'syds. 1; Miller, 55yds, 2; Thompson, 7yds, 3. Time, 7 3-ss. Second heat: Bell, tHyds, 1; Adams. 14iyds, 2; Elliott, 12yds, 3. Tho University Club held its final club run of the season over a hard course around the Three Kings and Mount Roskill on Saturday. A run-in was hold over 300 yards, and resulted in L. Ross scoring an easy win. from J. Mogee, with A. Graham, J. Graham, A. Ball and V. Simms following in the order named. CROSS COUNTRY EVENT, SOUTHERN UNIVERSITIES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Sunday. Tho South Island inter-university college cross country championship was decided at Wingatui yesterday afternoon over ft course of four miles. Otago had a comfortable win over Canterbury. The ground was heavy after recent rain. The individual winner was W. A. Stewart (Otago), whose time was 27m 1 3-sa. He was followed home by four Otago men and then came L. S. Bambery (Canterbury). This was the first contest of tho kind and it is hoped to make it an annual event.
