Mr. G. Baildon left for Wellington last evening. He will be away from Auckland for somei months.

Mr. T.. Reisterer, of Hastings, Mr. G. Calvert, o'f Cambridge, and Mr. A. Winge, of the Bay of Islands, are at the Central Hotel.
Mr. Justice Smith will leave for Hamilton at the end of this week to conduct the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court.
Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. W. Lockie has relinquished command of the North Auckland Regiment and has. been transferred to the reserve of officers.
Mr. H. M. Marler, of Auckland, who is visiting England, has undergone a serious operation in London. Advice to this effect has been received privately by cable in Auckland.
Squadron-Leader G. L. Stedman, pilot instructor to the Wellington Aero Club, lias been appointed to the command of No. 2 Bomber Squadron. He served ia Gallipoli, Palestine and Mesopotamia.
Mr. W. Russell-Wood left for Wellington last evening. Ho will later proceed to Ashburton, -where he will adjudicate the elocution and debating sections at the festival of the Ashburton Competitions Society.
Mr. Robin Adair, who has been appointed to fill the position of travelling secretary of the New Zealand Presbyterian Bible Class movement until the next sitting of the General Assembly, arrived in Auckland on Saturday morning on a fork night's visit to this city.
Mr. S. Takle, president, and Mr. ,L Findlav, secretary, of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association, returned to Auckland bv the limited express on Saturday morning from attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation in Wellington.
Mr. I. S. Gardiner, headmaster of the Victory Memorial School, Christchurch, has been appointed to' the Cathedral Grammar School as first assistant in the primary department. Before going to th'a Victory School, Mr. Gardiner was on the staff of Christ's College and of Wanganui College.
Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor, officer commanding No. 2 Squadron, New Zealand Air Force, has been posted to lha reserve of officers. Mr. McGregor, who is one of the best-known pilots in the Dominion, won the Distinguished Flying Cross decoration in the war, and "also gained a bar to' the decoration.
Captain IT. S. Hilton, who has been marine superintenderci nt Auckland for tha Canadian National Steamships for three and a-half years lihs been appointed marine superintendent for Australia and New Zealand, with headquarters at Sydney. Captain Hilton has been for 12 years in the Canadian Government Service and during the early part of that period .lie was in command of steamers trading between Canada and New ZealanrL Before heing appointed to tho position at Auckland he was assistant marine superintendent at Vancouver for four years. He will leave Auckland for Sydney by the Monowai on "Friday to take over' his new appointment.
