STOCK WINTERS WELL.
REPORT FROM ASHBURTON. GOOD LAMBING ANTICIPATED. The mild spring weather following beneficial rain has been gladly welcomed by farmers throughout the country, Writes the Ashburton correspondent of a Christchurch paper. The past winter has been one of the driest and coldest recorded for many years, but the unusually heavy fall of snow made up to a certain extent for the lack of moisture during the first two months of the season. Stock have come through the winter well. The turnip crops, which were exceptionally Rood, wero more than ample for local requirements and in many cases farmers disposed of their surplus supplies for feeding sheep from other centres which have been less fortunate in the matter of winter feed. At the present time prospects for the coming season, apart from the prices of wool and produce, are very promising and an early spring is predicted. Early sown crops are coming away well and the condition of breeding owes augurs well for a, successful lambing season.
