HEAVY TRAIN BOOKINGS.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS BEGUN. LARGE EXODUS YESTERDAY. The commencement of the second term holidays for primary and secondary school pupils throughout New Zealand yesterday resulted in a marked increase in railway passenger traffic. Large numbers of scholars left Auckland for the South last evening. All the accommodation on the limited express had been reserved by mid-day, and eight additional coaches were necessary on the second express, which was drawn by ,two locomotives, instead of one, as usual. There were numerous bookings for the National Park, and many passengers reserved seats for the through trip to Wellington. The first and second-class accommodation on the limited express to-m'orrow evening was fully reserved late yesterday afternoon. Bookings for both the northern express and the Taneatua express to-day are also heavy. Work in the primary schools will be resumed on Tuesday, September 8, and in the secondary schools a, week later.
