MOTORISTS' INTERESTS.

BRIDGE AT WIiSTFIELD. IMPROVING VISIBILITY. A decision to request the contractors for the concreting of the approaches to th# Westficld overhead bridge to hold up th# work and consider making a filling on the northern side, in order to improve th» visibility and lessen the danger to human life, was reached at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. /. Mr. G. Henning, who raised the proposal, said the concreting had already been commenced, but it, was not far advanced, arid the concrete was not vet set. The road dipped to a marked degree on the northern side of the bridge, and the hollow thus formed was quite sufficient to hide a motor-car. The dip had existed for some time, but the fault should bo rectified before the approaches were made permanent. It was pointed out that the matter was urgent, and Messrs. Henning and H. J. Butcher were appointed to consult Mr. F. S. Dyson, district engineer to the Public Works Department. The possibility of many places of great scenic beauty being spoiled by the erection of large roadside hoardings was stressed by Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, touring manager of the association. He said two firms in particular were erecting a number of roadside hoardings. Unless action was taken other advertisers would be forced to erect similar hoardings, and as the practice was now to select some very prominent site, it would not, be long before many pretty spots would be marred by numerous hoardings.
