CONDITIONS IN THE SOUTH.
Auckland.—A strong westerly wind was blowing daring the week-end, 1" conditions being stormy Saturday night, when frequent heavy vain squa s were experienced. Showers fell _ in tervals during the day and the conditions continued boisterous last night. . Wellington—A cold southerly wind blew on Saturday. Although several heavy showers marred the pleasure race-goers at Trentham, the city escap with a very little light rain. Rain e late in the evening. clear. Christchurcb. —Tho weather on Saturday was fine but windy until late in ,® , afternoon when a north-westerlj wID gave place to a south-westerly, with heavy rain until midnight. Snow fell,, on 9 higher levels and the port hills wer peppered on Sunday morning. There wa a hard frost following the rain, and un day was cold and threatening. The win increased almost to gale force, and afternoon driving showers of hail, mixe with snow, were experienced, whitening the roads. Indications were for a storm} night. The barometer was rising W tho reading in the evening was v Dunedin.—The weather ■ was very wintry on Saturday.
