SAVINGS BANK RETURNS.

FIGURES FOR QUARTER. "A SATISFACTORY POSITION." The deposit and withdrawal figures of the Auckland Savings Bank for the quarter ended on June 30 disclosed a very satisfactory position and supported a view that an improvement in economic conditions had already begun, said the president of the Board of Trustees, Mr. H. E. Vaile, yesterday. Deposits during the quarter, for which it was to be expected that there would be a falling off, wore only £8735 less than during the corresponding period of last year, and there was a decrease in withdrawal# of £82,034. Deposits exceeded withdrawals by £31,989 last quarter, whereas for the June quarter last year there was an excess of withdrawals over deposits of £41,310, the figures thus showing an improvement for the quarter, of £73,299 compared with last year. Following were the figures for the quarter this year:—Deposits, £1;104,814; withdrawals, £1,072,825. Iri the corresponding quarter last year the figures were Deposits, £1,113,549; withdrawals, £1,154,859. It was also reported _ that the bank's mortgage investments, in respect of both principal and interest, were in a very satisfactory state and that the position was being well maintained.
