LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

MR. LANG'S CAMPAIGN. FRESH QUARREL EXPECTED. HIGHER SALARIES REDUCTION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received July 13, 11.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 13. The people of New South Wales are anxiously awaiting the Dominions Office's ruling in regard to the refusal of the Governor, Sir Philip Game, to allow the Lang Government to swamp the Legislative Council with Labour appointees. The consensus of opinion, according to the press, is that the Dominions Office will decline to interfere. Some of Mr. Lang's Ministers share that view, which is strengthened by a private cablegram received from the Agent-General, Mr. A. C. Willis.

A report is current that Mr. Lang contemplates another quarrel with the Upper House. He is known to be preparing a measure to reduce the higher salaries of public officers to a £SOO maximum. Members of the Upper House already have described the measure as impossible and they will have no alternative but to throw it out, as they are powerless to amend it.
