HEAVY RAIN IN CITY.
DELAY ON WATERFRONT.
CARGO WORK HINDERED. The unsettled weather at Auckland Sunday was followed by a boisteroul northerly wind and heavy rain yesterday. Frequent showers fell in the early morn* , ing and continuous heavy rain during the afternoon. The evening was showery. The rainfall for the 24 hours ended midnight as registered by the Hekald gang ß was .57in.
The heavy rain in the afternoon prevented any cargo work being done on tns waterfront and all vessels in port vrera delayed. The Royal Mail liner Monowai wa* scheduled to sail for Sydney at 5 p.m.) but when tho rain stopped cargo work.it was doubtful if she would complete discharge and her departure was postponed until 10 p.m. The intermittent showers in the evening allowed discharging to b# resumed and the vessel sailed shortly after 10 o'clock.
The wet weather was general in th# North Island, according to advice received, shipping being delayed yesterday owing to heavy rain at New Plymouth and Napier,
The barometer, which registered 30.05 inches at midnight on Sunday, fell steadily yesterday and the reading last night was 29.65 in.
