LIFE SAVED BY DOG.
MAN UNCONSCIOUS IN FIRE.
ANIMAL DRAGS HIM CLEAR. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHAXGAREI, Monday. The sagacity of a clog saved its owner from death by burning in his hnfc on the Poroti gumfields last weekV The owner' of the dog, Albert McAskie, a gumdigger, aged 69, who lives alone, had a sudden seizure and fell into the fire. His dog perceiving its master's plight, dragged him clear of the fire. After recovering consciousness, McAskie secured help and was ultimately conveyed to the Whangarei District Hospital. His injuries are very r>eriou.s apd consist of burns on the b'ody, face and right hand. The latter is charred to the bone and it will probably be necessary to amputate it. It. was reported at the hospital to-night that the patient is doin/ •very well.
