WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

. Bombay.—At the last meeting of the' Bombay Institute members responded well to a competition, " Something New From Something Old," and 18 parcels of new garments created from old were handed in. These are to be forwarded to the Franklin Social Welfare League. The winners of the competition were. Mesdames Rudd, Tuohey and Brown. Miss Waterhouse, honorary organiser for the Women's Institutes, gave a lesson in moccasin making. The hostesses were Mesdames A. Ingram, W. Lowrie and M. J. Tuohey. Port Albert.—Mrs. > 11. B. Moore, of Warkworth, Rodney delegate to the Wellington conference, gave *an interesting outline of her visit to Wellington, and also showed a method of wool rugmaking from old knitted goods. Silverdale. —The institute entertained a large number of friends at its third birthday) party, including several from the Albany Institute. A presentation was made to Mrs. Murphy, the former secretary, who has since left the district. A crate of basketware from the Blind Institute found a ready sale. Waihi. —A request from the local branch of the Plunket Society for co-operation in its efforts on behalf of mothers and their infants was commended to members at a meeting of the institute. An announcement was made by Mrs. Gilmour that the Auckland Institute had done her the honour of electing her to the provincial executive. A round-table talk was held on the merits of New Zealand-made goods and the necessity for buying them as a means of assisting to relieve unemployment,.

Woodhill. —Mrs. L. S. Rickerby, a member of the Victoria League, gave an address on the work of the league to members of the institute, She also gave a demonstration of cake-icing and donated an iced cake to the institute. Members brought food and clothing to the meeting to be donated to Sister Esther and it was decided that £6 6s of: the proceeds of a recent dance organised by the Woodhill Women's Institute be also donated to Sister Esther's work.
