TELEPHONE TO SYDNEY.
MR. SCHMITT IN JAVA.. TALK WITH COLLEAGUE. (Received July 11, 1.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 10. The distinction of holding the first radiophone conversation between Java and Australia fell to Mr. L. J. Schmitt, New Zealand Trade and Tourist Commissioner in Australia, who is now visiting the East on a mission for the Dominion Government, and Mr. W. Blow, acting New Zealand Commissioner in Sydney. The conversation occurred at 10 p.m., Sydney time, to-day, and was a complete success.
Mr. Schmitt informed Mr. Blow that the Dutch Government was treating him admirably, and affording him every facility for the adequate fulfilment of his mission. Mr. Schmitt introduced a leading Dutch official to Mr. Blow by radiophone, with whom Mr. Blow conversed, and Mr. Schmitt concluded by expressing the highest admiration of the efficiency of various public utilities in Java.
