RE M OVAL OF A WREATH. YOUTH SENT. -TO - -BORSTAL.

A sentence-of • three years' detention in a Borstal institution was passe'd in the Police Court to-day on Ja-ck Nicol, aged 18, a salesman, for the theft of a wreath from the Kelvin .Grove cemetery. Detective Russell said 30-similar charges could .. have been brought against the accused. '
"This is a very serious matter, in that the theft has been going on for some considerable time, and I move that the matter be placed in the hands of the police for the necessary action,'" said the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford, at a meeting of the Palmerston North' City Council when a letter was received from the sexton of the Palmerston North cemetery advising that he had found a young man who * had • been taking artificial flowers and wreaths from the graves in the cemetery,'with the intention of selling them- He was carrying a bag, which, on "being opened, revealed the wreaths. - -
