MUIR'S REEF BATTERY. PURCHASE BY GOLDEN DAWN. AUCKLAND COMPANY'S PROJECT. Tho purchase of the battery, plant and gear of Muir's Reef Gold -Mines, Ltd., at To Puke, has been completed by the Golden Dawn Gold Mines, Ltd., with tho Mines Department. Operations are now under way at both Te Puke and the Golden Dawn Company's battery site at ' Owharoa, near Waihi, for the removal and re-erection of the plant and the erection, of additional plant and machinery recommended by Mr. J. Noble, battery engineer of Thames, to bring the company's present 10-stamper battery up to date. It is anticipated that the improvements will be completed and the battery running in about four months.' Everything is in readiness' at the mine immediately the battery is ready to supply ore from the several faces on Nos. 1 apd 3 reefs, in which the mine manager estimates there are 8000 tons at present available and from which the run of 500 tons treated at the Waihi Company's battery at Waikino was supplied. A condition of the favourable terms of the sale by the Mines Department is that, while operating the battery, and subject to priority of its own requirements, the company will treat ore for prospectors and others on terms arranged. This will give facilities for tho treatment of outside ore which do not exist at present and which have been the subject of many requests in the past, in addition to providing a remunerative return for the company. WAIHI CRUSHING RETURNS. ;; . RESULTS DURING LAST MONTH, [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT^! WAIHI, Friday. The following information has been cabled to the London office of the .Waihi Gold Mining Company:— For the period ended June 27, comprising 21 crushing days, 17,433 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 6238 fine ounces of gold and 46,714 fine ounces of ; silver. This includes 1881 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 11750z, of gold and 15,7950z. of 'silver. ■■ ■ : - - No. 5 Level.—ln Grand Junction area: A crosscut was driven, south from the Martha lode at 130 ft. east of the main ~ crosscut, and at • 24ft. in intersected quartz 3ft. wide. The first lffc. 6in. ' assays 5s per ton, and the last Ift. 6in. is high-grade sulphide ore. The course is 48 degrees, and close to the' Junction main shaft there is quartz about Ift. . wide about the same course; also highgrade sulphide ore. ■ No. 11 Level. —State reef: In Junction eastern area the next 27ft.; driving" east assays: 27s per" ton. It is anticipated that this amount will be liquidated within a very' short time. ; The company has also a substantial sum ; on fixed deposit:as a reserve against any unforeseen contingency. ■ ALEXANDER RETURNS. - Alexander Mines (Westland). —In June 366 tons'* of'ore were crushed for a return :•! of 1270z. lOdwt. of melted gold.
